North Coast Beginning Teacher Program

INTERN SUPPORT PROVIDERS

Congratulations on being selected as a Support Provider!  Your role and the support you provide to beginning teachers are extremely valuable!

Support Providers are the best of the best!  They are exemplary educators specially selected to work with novice teachers.  Support Providers exemplify optimism and positive attitudes.  Skills required of Support Providers include effective communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to be reflective about the craft of teaching and an understanding of the dimensions of teaching and learning as an ongoing process.  They must work well with adults and have knowledge of beginning teacher development, demonstrate commitment to personal professional growth and learning, and be willing to participate in professional training to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be effective Support Providers.

Support Providers complete, and have on file with their District Coordinator, a Support Provider Application and attend formal preparation and coaching training before assuming their role.

As collaborative partners, the NCBTP and Universities work together to ensure that each Intern receives a quality program and appropriate support. The Intern program is focused on the required University coursework. Additionally, Interns are provided with both a University supervisor and a NCBTP Support Provider to guide and support them through the program.

The Support Provider’s role is critical to the success of the Intern.  Along with ongoing, local guidance and support, your role includes the following required activities:

  1. Attend and participate in all required Support Provider trainings and informational meetings.

  2. Meet weekly with your Intern(s) for a total of 40 hours per year – this translates to a  minimum  of one hour each week. Document the meetings on the monthly Activity Log and submit at the end of each month.

  3. Conduct a minimum of two (2) classroom observations of the Intern and record on Observation Form and Intern Program Annual Summary.

  4. Work with the University Supervisor to assist the Intern in completing his/her university requirements.

  5. Advise and assist the Intern in completing and submitting the Intern Program Annual Summary at the end of the school year.

  6. Utilize the monthly support and resource activities found in your Support Provider Intern Binder.

We sincerely thank you for your work and appreciate all you do!
