North Coast Beginning Teacher Program
SUPPORT PROVIDERS

Congratulations on being selected as a Support Provider! Your role and the support you provide to beginning teachers are extremely valuable!
Support Providers are the best of the best!
They are exemplary educators specially selected to work with novice teachers. Support Providers exemplify optimism and positive attitudes. Skills required of Support Providers include effective communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to be reflective about the craft of teaching and an understanding of the dimensions of teaching and learning as an ongoing process. They must work well with adults and have knowledge of beginning teacher development, demonstrate commitment to personal professional growth and learning, and be willing to participate in professional training to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be effective Support Providers.
Support Providers complete, and have on file with their District Coordinator, a Support Provider Application. Support Providers attend initial preparation (Peer Coaching) before assuming their duties in Year 1 and attend Advanced Peer Coaching in Year 2. This professional development helps Support Providers become familiar with the Induction Program requirements and the Formative Assessment System. It also deepens their knowledge of formative assessment processes including non-evaluative reflective conversations, the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) and the Induction Standards. Monthly seminars and reflective work with beginning teachers also strengthen Support Providers’ understanding of working with English Language Learners and students with cultural, ethnic, cognitive, linguistic, and gender diversity.
The work of Support Providers allows new teachers to transition into a complex and challenging profession! Having a mentor and expert colleague supports this transition and provides opportunities for success while simultaneously providing opportunities for professional growth. We sincerely thank you for your work and appreciate all you do!
