North Coast Beginning Teacher Program

CREDENTIAL PROGRAMS OVERVIEW

The North Coast Beginning Teacher Program (NCBTP) credential programs are approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Successful completion of each program leads to a California Clear Credential.  For more information about each of our credential programs, click on the corresponding program at the left side of this page - Adult Ed, Career Technical Ed, Education Specialist, or Multiple or Single Subject

Within each credential program (also referred to as the Induction Program), Beginning Teachers work with highly qualified Support Providers to reflect on their teaching practice. Utilizing the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (pdf file) as the foundation for professional growth, assessment and support activities are specific, practical, and evidence-based. Attention to the learning environment, planning and teaching, student content standards, formative assessment, reflective practice, and collaboration provide opportunities for ongoing professional growth.  For additional information about the Induction Program, review the Induction Program Overview (pdf file).

General Education Preliminary Credential

Teachers holding a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Preliminary Credential (including teachers prepared out of state) complete an Induction Program to obtain a California Clear Credential.  Induction is a situated learning, state-approved clear credential program. Teachers are paired with a local Support Provider for ongoing support, attend professional development seminars, and complete formative assessment activities to meet the credential requirements.

Early Completion Option

Teachers holding a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Preliminary Credential may be eligible for an Early Completion Option.  This option, as described in SB 57, provides experienced teachers with 2 or more years of full-time teaching experience with an opportunity to accelerate their Induction Program.   Review the Early Completion Policy (pdf file) for more details and contact your County Coordinator for more information.

Education Specialist Credential

Preliminary Education Specialist Credentialholders may participate in a CCTC approved Induction Program to obtain their California Clear Credential.  Education Specialist teachers develop Individual Induction Plans specially designed to meet their unique needs, are paired with a local Support Provider, and are provided with additional support services to meet credential requirements.

Designated Subjects Credential – Career Technical Ed and/or Adult Ed Teachers

Teachers who hold a Preliminary Career Technical Education or Adult Education Credential, and are seeking to obtain a Level 1 and Clear Credential, participate in the NCBTP two-year approved program to meet all of their credential requirements.  Teachers attend the online Orientation and Foundations Class, are paired with a local Support Provider for ongoing support, attend professional development seminars, and complete formative assessment activities to meet the credential requirements.
