North Coast Beginning Teacher Program
CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION
Career Technical Education (CTE) teachers employed in districts or a county office of education within in Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino, Nevada or Sonoma Counties participate in the NCBTP CTE Credential Program. If you have been offered a CTE teaching position in one of these counties, go to your local County Office of Education credential analyst to obtain advisement, guidance, and information as to how to complete the paperwork for the Preliminary Credential*. Simultaneously, enroll online using the Enrollment Tab on the Home Page of this website.

Career Technical Education (CTE) is delivered primarily through K–12/adult education programs and community college programs. CTE teachers support elementary, middle and high school students in meeting high academic standards and the essential knowledge and transferable skills to match rapidly shifting workplace requirements. CTE focuses on rigorous and engaging curricula, supportive relationships, and demonstrated outcomes. CTE courses form the foundation of the state’s workforce development system and CTE programs are closely linked with workforce and economic development agencies and industry, and rely on the participation of community-based organizations.
The Preliminary or Clear Full-Time Designated Subjects CTE Teaching Credential authorizes the holder to teach in the subject or subjects named on the credential in grades twelve and below and in classes organized primarily for adults, in career technical instruction courses. Available subjects, also known as industry sectors, are as follows:
• Agriculture and Natural Resources
• Arts, Media, and Entertainment
• Building Trades and Construction
• Education, Child Development, and Family Services
• Energy and Utilities
• Engineering and Design
• Fashion and Interior Design
• Finance and Business
• Health Science and Medical Technology
• Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
• Information Technology
• Manufacturing and Product Development
• Marketing, Sales, and Service
• Public Service
• Transportation
Career Technical Education teachers within the NCBTP service area participate in the NCBTP Commission on Teacher Credentialing approved CTE credential program for both their Initial and Advanced preparation. The program is closely aligned with the BTSA Induction Program and includes the following:
1. Complete the online Orientation and Foundations Class
2. Complete the online or local Starting Out Right Class (optional)
3. Meet the Health Education and CPR requirement (Ed Code 44259 c.4.A)
4. Attend BTSA Induction monthly seminars (or the equivalence) with a district-assigned Support Provider for 2 years
5. Submit evidence of having met all program standards
6. Meet the US Constitution requirement, if applicable.
Upon completion of all program requirements, CTE teachers submit the applicable credential application materials to the NCBTP and are recommended to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for their California Clear CTE Credential.
