North Coast Beginning Teacher Program
ADULT EDUCATION
Adult education provides lifelong educational opportunities and services to adult learners. These opportunities and services address the unique needs of individuals and communities by providing adults with the knowledge and skills necessary to participate effectively as citizens, workers, family members, and consumers of goods and services.

Courses at approved Adult Schools usually include one or more of the following:

Adult Literacy/High School Diploma

English as a Second Language/Citizenship

Adults with Disabilities

Career Technical Education/Apprenticeships

Parenting, Family, and Consumer Awareness

Older Adults
Jail Programs: The California Education Code sections 1900 et seq. provide for education to incarcerated adults at county jails in basic education, high school diploma, and English as a second language.
Adult Education teachers participate in the North Coast Beginning Teacher BTSA Induction Program to obtain their California Clear Credential. Currently, the initial is issued through the Sonoma County Office of Education. Credential Advisor, Sandy Jaeger (sjaeger@scoe.org or 707-765-2345; fax 707-238-1520), supports candidates through the initial application process and Carreer Technical Education Coordinator, Steve Jurist (sjurist@mcn.org or 707-884-9114), provides ongoing support in meeting the clear credential requirements.
